Max is an interactive programming environment created by Cycling ‘74 for artists, researches, performers, composers, and others.

With Max you create your own software using a visual toolkit of objects connected visually using “patch cords” like an old analog synthesizer. Max includes hundreds of these objects for interfacing with hardware (sensors, joysticks, MIDI devices, USB devices such as the Monome, etc.), timing events, creating graphic user interfaces, displaying web pages, etc.

MSP extends Max by providing real-time audio signal processing in the same graphical environment. Whether using the soundfile utilities, filters, oscillators, and effects – or building your own – MSP offers the most engaging graphical audio environment available.

Jitter broadens Max’s appeal even further by providing a set of matrix data processing objects optimized for video and 3-D graphics.

Downloads and Authorization

Max/MSP is downloadable software. You can download the latest version (including a 30-day demo) from here.

Following the 30-day demo you will be required to Authorize your copy of Max. If you purchase Max from Electrotap, the process works like this:

1. You purchase Max (or a bundle containing Max) through our website.
2. Your order is processed by our automated system, and your purchase information is automatically forward to Cycling ‘74 to register your copy of Max.
3. Further instructions are emailed to you.
