“Tap.Tools is my favorite Max add-on; an indispensable collection of time-savers at a really low price”—Peter Kirn, CreateDigitalMusic
The third-generation of our essential components for Cycling ’74’s incredible Max environment. The Tap.Tools deliver powerful objects for streamlining patches
and saving time with uncompromising quality.
New in Tap.Tools 3

New Objects
Explore fresh ideas with new objects including flexible filters and objects for file management.

Intelligent Control
Tap.Tools frees you from worrying about boring and tedious tasks by providing control objects that do the mundane. For example:
- tap.folder creates, copies, and deletes folders on your hard drive
- tap.filecontainer bundles files together into a database
- tap.path provides the path to your Desktop or Documents folder
- tap.pack and tap.unpack are more flexible versions of the standard objects
Intelligent control is not limited to the everyday chore, however. Tap.Tools provides objects for expanding your expressive control and performing high level tasks, including:
- tap.jit.ali, the heart of Hipno, morphs between sets of data.
- tap.xml.sax is a streaming XML file parser that allows you use any of a myriad XML-based formats including music-xml, xhtml, and SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files.
- tap.windowdrag, completely re-written for Max 5, allows you to define regions of a patcher that can be used to drag the window around on the monitor.
- tap.applescript compiles and runs AppleScripts to interact with the Mac system.
Powerful Audio and Visual Tools
Eric Singer has done some work in Max/MSP-Jitter motion tracking, but there’s a lot more value and capabilities in Electrotap’s Tap.Tools—Peter Kern, CreateDigitalMusic
Leverage Jitter to your advantage by using Tap.Tools visual objects to track motion, track color, smooth data, build interfaces, and drive parametric controls. The power of Hipno is available in Max using these objects.
- tap.jit.proxity compares coordinate sets to tell you what point is nearest to a provided point.
- tap.jit.sum determines how much an image has changed from one frame to the next.
- tap.jit.motion supplies information about where motion is occurring within a matrix.
- tap.jit.colortrack produces up to 4 coordinate sets of color regions that followed in a matrix stream.
More than 10 years of experience designing audio algorithms are available in Tap.Tools – freeing you to worry about your art, research, or performance and not about how to create your own algorithm. Of course, you can work with low-level and high-level building blocks side-by-side too.
- tap.svf~ is not just a better sounding SVF filter than the one provided by MSP, it also includes integrated LFOs and portamento.
- tap.verb~ is the easiest way to add reverb to Max patch and include it in a standalone application or plug-in.
- tap.shift~ provides light-weight pitch shifting of audio signals while not using your entire processor to do it.
Getting Started in Minutes
An impressive collection of more than N audio effects processing objects, including reverb and pitch-shifting, means you can get audible results in minutes, even if you are used to it taking hours to build an audio algorithm in Max. Every object makes thorough use of attributes and Max 5’s inspector to put all of the controls you need at your fingertips – without spending time patching everything together before you can use it.
Every object, from video analyzers to xml parsers to audio generators, has a full help patcher and reference integrated into Max 5’s searchable and integrated documentation system. Quicktime movies demonstrate how to work, and are accessible in the integrated documentation and the Max 5 File Browser.
